On Thursday night, BBC Three dropped the trailer for the debut season of Drag Race UK on their official YouTube channel. The series starts in just over two weeks away and will feature ten of the brightest drag stars in the UK competing for the chance to become the Next Drag Superstar.
The trailer is definitely inspired by classic British sitcoms, featuring the queens arranging a living room for some kind of party and a gag relating to one of them stealing another’s bedazzled facekini. Ru then speaks on a mirror behind them and announces she is looking for the UK’s Next Drag Superstar. The wall then flips around to reveal a DJ set, before they start to lipsync to Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”, with deathdrops and a comedy wig reveal. Fans have stated on forums and social media that this is amongst the best ever trailers for the franchise, after several years of dull promo videos.
There has also been a thirty second video release featuring clips from the episodes themselves, with extracts of interactions between queens in the Werkroom, RuPaul herself on the runway and a couple of…interesting acting and fashion choices in challenges themselves.
Who is taking part in Drag Race UK?
For the debut season of Drag Race UK, ten queens have been cast, heralding from places including London, Liverpool, Belfast and Wiltshire. These are the ten taking part (from left to right in the promotion picture above).
|Divina de Campo||West Yorkshire|
|Sum Ting Wong||Birmingham|
In addition to the trailers above, BBC Three have also released a “Meet the Queens” video on their YouTube channel. This gives more detail on who the contestants are as performers and why they applied for Drag Race UK.
Where can I watch Drag Race UK?
In the UK itself, the show is being shown on the BBC Three channel, which moved online a couple of years ago. Therefore, an episode will be released every week on BBC iPlayer for viewers in the UK, with the first being available to watch from 8pm on the 3rd October 2019. However, if you live in the US and Australia, you can watch the series through the production company World of Wonder through their subscription service WOW Presents Plus, which you can get for $3.99 a month.
